eBay is now offering prepaid wireless plans as an option with the purchase of a second hand phone. Just beneath the “Add to cart” button there will be a list of offers that range from 30 days to 360 days for the wireless plan.
The unlimited wireless plan ranges from $29, all the way up to $249.
eBay couldn’t have picked a better time to launch this feature. Just as of next week, Apple will be releasing the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max. In addition to that, Google Pixel 3 will be released soon after, which means a lot of people might be thinking about selling their phones.
eBay is capitalizing on this opportunity since buyers that are looking for second hand devices can conveniently purchase the pick up plan.
The wireless plan from Red Pocket provides “5GB of LTE data plus unlimited data at slower speeds, along with unlimited talk, text, and international calling to over 70 countries.”
Red Pocket is a mobile virtual network operator that allows people to choose between any major carrier for their phones. This is likely the reason why eBay was eager to partner with the company.
David Grim, Category Manager at eBay says, “Red Pocket Mobile is the natural partner for us to launch our add-on wireless plan.”
“Because Red Pocket works on all of America’s major networks, their service can apply to virtually all of the millions of phones sold on eBay.”
The President & CEO of Red Pocket Mobile, Joshua Gordon commented that, “eBay’s introduction of a wireless plan add-on can change how Americans get their cell phone service.”
“More and more people are realizing that the best way to save money on wireless is to buy not just your phone on eBay, but your service plan too.”
